Ravenna Gorge in Germany is captivating with its awe-inspiring natural beauty. Towering trees, rugged cliffs, and the gentle flow of the Ravenna River create a picturesque landscape. It's truly magical and a once-in-a-lifetime experience!
You may have seen it under another name: the Ravennaschlucht Weihnachtsmarkt. That's the official German name that you can find the market under. This smaller but dreamy market was a bucket list dream of mine, and I'm so glad I could check it off my list! Unfortunately, due to the weather that day, I could not climb up to get a better view (which made me so sad). So, these photos are all taken from the ground (darn it). 📸

Now, before I get too far into things, let's talk about the logistics of visiting this magical market. I very much so would not suggest just "showing up and figuring it out." 🙅♂️
Tickets
Yes, you heard me right! This market requires you to pre-purchase tickets online. I believe tickets went on sale mid-October this past year (2023), so I'd start paying attention around then! On their website, you can see that they have already sold out for the year. It's a very popular but small market, so you don't want to miss out if this is on your bucket list! 🎟️
Type of tickets you can purchase:
Admission & Shuttle Bus Titisee
Admission & Shuttle Bus Hinterzarten
Admission & Shuttle Bus to Himmelreich Station
Admission & Shuttle Bus Freiburg
Admission (w/o Parking)
Parking Ticket
Group Ticket
All prices in 2023 were relatively cheap and under 10 euros per person. You also have a 2-hour time slot, but it was so crowded when I went that; clearly, people don't follow it.
Shuttle Bus/Driving
Due to its location, the Gorge doesn't have great parking options nearby, hiking in (depending on weather) can be icy, and the roads are small. These tickets are a great option to park and ride!
Hiking in
This is an option, but I do need to warn you that it gets very icy in the area. When we visited, it was actively snowing, and I was slipping quite often. This could be a dangerous option, and I wouldn't necessarily recommend it. Please check weather conditions before attempting! ❄️🧊
Suggested Parking for Hiking: Parkplatz P1 am Rößlehof - This is about a 30-45 minute hike away. https://maps.app.goo.gl/qJvhtW6hAr5Mr1PB6
I believe Hello, it's Jasper hiked in, and she may be posting a blog! So, definitely search her page/website to see what she did. Both her Facebook and Website have a search function you can use to see if anything has been posted! 🌲🚶♂️

Now, on to my story!
Because of the extra logistics that go into attending this market, I opted to take a bus excursion from the KMC area. 🚌
I booked through EuroTrip Adventures and was very happy with everything overall. The cost was 60 euros, which I thought was very reasonable for an all-day outing. However, I will say I wasn't pleased about the fact that we were sent an e-mail and asked to pay for assigned seats on the bus out of the blue. We were told that we would be randomly assigned a seat if we did not do so. I thought this was a little weird and annoying. Also, when we arrived at our destination earlier in the day (Freiburg was the first stop), we asked our guide if we had time to go to the bathroom before she guided us to the market. She said yes but was nowhere to be seen when we exited the restroom! They had left us (we did find it on our own)! Other than that, it was a pleasant ride to and from the market. We got there safely and in a timely manner.

Edit: These are the shuttle buses that they offer on their website for transportation to and from the market. I listed the different options above, as well as the website if you need further information! It looks like in 2023 they ran from Hinterzarten (train station area), Himmelreich, Titisee, and Freiburg.
Such as this Cuckoo clock house! If you catch it at the right time, music will play, and the figures will spin and dance! 🕰️
Or this cozy and festively decorated venue! ✨
You'll know you're heading in the right direction when you see this sign! 👏
The walkway is lined with beautiful trees and lights, and the color-changing Viaduct beckons you closer every step of the way. 🎄🌟
Because we went on a weekend night, it was very crowded (as you can see above). However, we did manage to get a few drinks and some food and do a little shopping! You only have a 2-hour slot, and I think that is plenty of time when it is that packed. ⏱️
The only thing that took up a little more of our time than we would have liked was trying to find a mug we liked. I personally ended up giving up on the search (due to the crowds) and landed this little mug! It does say the name of the market on the side (you can see part of it on the right). ➡️
I was also thrilled to find a Feuerzangenbowle! If you aren't familiar with this drink, it is a traditional alcoholic drink where a rum-soaked cone of a special sugar (sugarloaf) is set on fire and drips into the cup! The main body of the drink is usually a spiced red wine. I absolutely loved this one and will try more of these when I can find them! Plus, it's generally a fun affair with the fire and all. ☕🔥
Thankfully, there were several fires present to help keep visitors warm! 🔥
Off to the side was this colorful trail running along the small creek. It was beautifully decorated and featured a series of nativity scenes. 👑🐫
Such as this one! ⬆️
There were thankfully some covered tables for us to eat and drink at. Sometimes, if they are all full, you have to stand off the side and wait for someone to leave. Be quick about it, though, when you see an opening! 🏃♂️💨
We were so lucky to go on a snow day. It added an extra layer of charm to our visit! 😍
Also, a bit of danger too... 👀🧊
I would not recommend this market if you are disabled in any way. 🦽
I'm a little sad we didn't go during the day because, oh my gawd, this photo!!!! My friend Michelle K. took this during her visit, and it is everything!! 😮 She said they arrived at 2:30 pm and were able to get many beautiful shots in the daylight hours, and then around 4:00 pm, it got dark. The best of both worlds. That's perfect timing, and I would suggest you also plan your trip around those times (if possible)!
In addition, I'm even more depressed that it wasn't safe enough for me to climb up to the higher viewpoints to take photos like this! You can get the entire market in one shot, and I feel like I totally have to go again to do this. 🤔 Makes sense, right? 😄 Serious regrets here!
Above all else, it was COLD! Super-duper cold! Make sure you check the weather and dress warmly! 🥶🌬️
